The History of BARAGA

The Burnaby and Region Allotment Gardens Association manages a community garden located in the Big Bend region of the City of Burnaby. Here is a brief presentation

The land area, most of which is gardened, is about 330 metres by 180 metres in size. This 5.9 hectare garden is part of the approximately 250 hectares of Burnaby land which is within the 4.7 million-hectare British Columbia Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR).

BARAGA consists of 372 garden plots, each 1000 square feet (93 square metres) in size, measuring 50 feet x 20 feet.  BARAGA was started in 1982 and there is a brief summary of  the early days between 1982 to 1986
